Three short booklets are available, which describe the history of Kimberley, the history of Awsworth and the history of Watnall, Notts. These settlements are now part of the Nottingham conurbation, and might appear on a fairly superficial level to be rather ordinary. But they are all listed in the Domesday Book of 1087, and all have fascinating and complex histories stretching back at least to Saxon times. They were all, at one time or another, owned by some of the greatest aristocratic families in England, and all have complex agricultural and industrial legacies.

These three short booklets - A Brief History of Kimberley, A Brief History of Awsworth and A Brief History of Watnall, by J.M.Lee, bring together some recent research, and attempt to summarise developments from Roman, right up to modern times.

For a further description of each booklet, please see the relevant site page.

For additional  historical information on the area please, see the ‘Other Material’ page.

The booklets are available locally, both to borrow and to buy; they are also available from the author by post. Please see the contact info page for details.
